Silent Valley | First up we have the Silent Valley. Located on the Head Road and just over 3 miles from Kribben Cottages, the Silent Valley is the perfect place to venture on your vacation. There are numerous walks and trails on offer, with lots of amenities on site including a children’s play park, duck feeding facilities, a café and a small history museum – Oh and let’s not forget the spectacular views from the overflow. Trails are clearly marked and you can learn about the history of the Valley via VR technology (virtual reality) by scanning signage along the trails with your smart phone! It really is a great day out whatever the weather.

Kilbroney Park | A little further afield, in Rostrevor to be precise, you’ll stumble across Kilbroney Forest Park, a charming forestry which is said to be the inspiration for the Chronicles of Narnia. Packed with amenities including a children’s play park, outdoor gym, café, tennis courts, mountain bike hire and tonnes of trails, you’ll find your day slipping away as you soak in the scenery across Carlingford Lough and further afield into the Cooley Mountains. What’s more, you’ll find an enchanting Narnia Trail dedicated to the famous author C.S Lewis. Enter through the ‘wardrobe door; where you will find lots of strange and intriguing creatures featured in his books. And if you enjoy running, you can join the weekly Parkrun, but be warned, it packs a punch, with plenty of hills it has been voted the most difficult course in all of Ireland!

Tollymore Forest Park | Take the short and scenic drive along the coastal route to Newcastle, where you’ll find a grand entrance into Tollymore Forest which covers almost 630 hectares at the foot of the Mournes and offers panoramic views of the surrounding mountains and the sea. Four waymarked trails of varying lengths take visitors on a tour of the park’s most beautiful areas. Each trail follows a circular route and is clearly sign posted from the information board in the main car park.

Castlewellan Forest Park | Located just outside the seaside town of Newcastle, Castewellan Forest Park may be the furthest away from Kribben Cottages but it certainly has a lot to offer including one of Northern Ireland’s most famous lakes, a stunning Victorian Castle, incredible panoramic views, scenic walking trails, 27km of Mountain Bike Trails, Nature Play perfect for the kids, an onsite multi-activity centre, hedge maze and an equestrian centre, Castlewellan Forest Park boasts all of this and more making it a must-visit for all ages.
